The Twenty-First Day of the Seventh Month...Seriously Lord?

Incredible...

For all who know about the numerous changes we are going through right now related to our impending move, the stress of being separated as a family, the new job, tring to find a place to live (see previous blog entry...God is good!), the baby on the way, and of course, who could forget, trying to sell our house in Middlebury...please bear with me and read on.  We have particularly been struggling with the lack of the sale of our home.  We know that God is in control of this situation, and that He will sell the house in His timing, yet we have shown the house over a dozen times in the last 7 weeks, and needless to say, it is getting old..."We don't like the driveway"..."We want a finished basement"..."We want a two-story" (then why are you looking at our ranch?)...or my personal favorite...Natalie busts her tail to clean the house, load up two kids, get out for an hour and the people don't show up (3 times now)!!!!

Tonight, after a tough day of waiting to find out whether a potential buyer (our first 2nd showing) will or won't on our house, and with no word back, even as I type, I just got off the phone with my wife (who is undeniably the strongest, most incredible, amazing woman I know, not to mention that she is stunningly beautiful).  She called me, excited (me thinking maybe we got an offer), to tell me about her quiet time with the Lord this evening.

"You will never believe what I just read...do you have your Bible?" she asked.  

"Yea, why," I responded.

"Turn to Haggai 2, and read verses 1 - 9," she told me, "I opened to the middle of my devotional (My Daily Bread, which by the way is not associated with any dates/times of the year) and this is the scripture reference, Haggai 2, do you know what it says?  Read it."  

"OK, Just a sec...I'm still trying to find Haggai since its only like 4 pages long."  As I finally got to the book and chapter, I began to read...OK seriously, I know this is not the context for which it was originally written, but SERIOUSLY...sometimes the Lord has a way speaking to us through the Holy Spirit.  Then there are times like tonight, when he whacked Natalie and I upside the head with a 2x4...look at the Word of the Lord below...not only did he hit the subject on the head (or heads), but He referenced TODAY'S DATE in the first verse!

Haggai 2

The Promised Glory of the New House

 1 On the twenty-first day of the seventh month, the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai: 2 "Speak to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, to Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people. Ask them, 3 'Who of you is left who saw this house in its former glory? How does it look to you now? Does it not seem to you like nothing? 4 But now be strong, O Zerubbabel,' declares the LORD. 'Be strong, O Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land,' declares the LORD, 'and work. For I am with you,' declares the LORD Almighty. 5 'This is what I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt. And my Spirit remains among you. Do not fear.'

 6 "This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'In a little while I will once more shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. 7 I will shake all nations, and the desired of all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,' says the LORD Almighty. 8 'The silver is mine and the gold is mine,' declares the LORD Almighty. 9 'The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,' says the LORD Almighty. 'And in this place I will grant peace,' declares the LORD Almighty."

Ok, I know that the calendar then is not the calendar now, but I know the Lord is awesome and that He spoke to my wife and I through His word tonight.  How awesome is our God!  Every time we feel in the dumps about what we are going through, God reaches out and "touches" us with His love and reminds us that He is in control!
